At one point Henry says to Shawn "You nearly "This Is Us'd" the entire block." This is a reference to NBC show This Is Us, in which Timothy Omundson plays a bit part. Shawn's line "They have the same show on ABC, but newer" refers to A Million Little Things, which stars James Roday Rodriguez himself alongside movie co-star Allison Miller . Chipera was most likely named after Matthew Chipera, a Psych co-producer and production manager. When Jazmyn Simon's Selene reveals to Gus that she is pregnant, Simon herself was actually more than eight months pregnant with her and Dulé Hill's son Levi, which is why her abdomen is often hidden behind objects.
Everyone is fast asleep, but Shawn suddenly wakes up to the sounds of a bumbling baby. He walks into the hallway and discovers Mary as a baby in a jumper chair. Mary expresses the joy of being a baby to Shawn, who sings him asleep with a lullaby. Gus has followed Shawn into the hallway and can also see Mary, who disappears when Wilkerson comes sneaking past and distracts the duo. Alarmed, the duo chase him down and confront him about his fake coma.

However, when Morrissey suddenly enters the room with a human hand the duo realize that Lassiter's brain might not be as unreliable as Dolores thinks. Tina Fey’s last streaming comedy proved that “females are strong as hell.” Now the prolific TV creator is set to double down on that message with the lead casting for her new Peacock sitcom. Along with the previously announced cast members, original series stars Maggie Lawson, Kristen Nelson, and Corbin Bernsen will reprise their roles from the beloved USA Network series. Psych follows Shawn Spencer, a carefree loafer with incredible powers of observation, tricks the police into believing he is a psychic.
That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. It doesn't matter where you watch Psych, whether it's online or on DVD, or even reruns on TV, it's always loads of fun. One of the items on Lassiter's list of errands says "tap class?" in reference to Lassiter's tap dance lessons in S5E2 "Feet Don't Kill Me Now". Another item says "eliminate hippies", which is a call-back to his outspoken resentment towards hippies in S6E8 "The Tao of Gus". Another says "S.E.I.Z.E.", a reference to Shawn's nonsensical acronym in S8E2 "S.E.I.Z.E. the Day".
Where to watch
And while it was great to see him return, The special really didn't do him any justice. The plot was relatively mediocre and filled a bit too many one-liners for my taste. It was by far the worst special that they've done IMO and this is coming from someone who has watched the show since the very beginning.
After Juliet introduces Selene as Gus' girlfriend, McNab mentions she must be the nurse mentioned to him by Shawn which infuriates Selene causing her to return to the car. Shawn and Gus climb through the car to avoid being seen, during which, Shawn finds a positive pregnancy test on the floor of the car shocking him to discover Juliet is pregnant. Juliet is in her office looking into the confession of Lassiter's alleged shooter when she is surprised by Gus' girlfriend, Selene. Selene hasn't heard from Gus and is worried that something is going on or that there is someone else. Juliet assures her she has nothing to worry about as Shawn and Gus have been in Santa Barbara investigating a case, but inadvertently mentions the nurse appearing to be attracted to Gus which worries Selene.

Shawn and Gus are back at the Cat Restaurant using it as a work space. Shawn looks over all the information they have taped on the wall looking for a connection. He notices multiple charges made by the owner of the severed hand, Tileback, at an Ice Bar that seem suspicious due to the bar's far off location. Back at the Herschel House, Lassiter wakes up to Morrissey laying on top of him. Lassiter wheels himself to the window and sees a bloody and wounded person limping into the stables.
A young Lassiter is sharing a bonding experience with his father while hiking, but when he looks away his father suddenly disappears. Lassiter starts yelling for him in panic, but then the image distorts and we learn that adult Lassiter is having a flashback on the brink of death after suffering several gunshot wounds. He is approached by a silhouetted man and begs for his life. After hallucinating his father beside him, he is shot once more and passes out.
He explains that Ova's decision to better his life after suffering a stroke dashed his hopes of succeeding his father as head of the crime syndicate. To make matters worse, Ova's stay at the Herschel House also made him a target for blackmail. However, Per made the best of the situation by becoming a partner in the scheme and working as the outside man. Suddenly Selene enters the room and reveals she visited Dolores. Still convinced that Gus likes Dolores back, she tells him she can live with his choice to date Dolores instead.
Shawn guesses that Ova's secrets came out while he was at the Herschel House resulting in someone trying to blackmail Per with the information. Per says that someone tried, but Per instead became a partner with the blackmailer. While talking to Wilkerson, Shawn realizes the ice chips they have been eating must have a psychotropic drug in them making someone who eats them want to confess things. This is why Shawn and Gus couldn't help confessing things to Dr. Herschel in the stables previously.
He also warns Shawn and Gus that it is only dangerous if they continue to fuel Lassiter's fantasies by taking them seriously. Shawn and Gus return to Lassiter's room to tell him they cannot help him, and that the things he is seeing are not real and probably caused by his medications. Then Morrissey, who jumped out the window after Shawn and Gus previously left the room with Dolores, walks through the door with a severed human hand in his mouth. The hand convinces Shawn and Gus to look into Lassiter's claims. Dolores is putting Lassiter to bed and reveals that the pills he normally takes have been replaced with some that will kill him instead.
When Shawn and Gus arrive at the landlord's office and ask whose voice he is trying to imitate, one of Gus's suggestions is Diedrich Bader, who appeared in S6E8 "The Tao of Gus" as commune leader Eli. A pineapple appears in Henry's room when Shawn and Gus are there to ask his advice on how to deal with the Lassie situation. Shawn grabs it and is about to say "Shall I slice this up for the road?" when he decides not to bother. This is a call-back to the pilot episode, where James Roday Rodriguez improvised the line and thus created Psych's pineapple tradition.
When they arrive at the office, they discover that it has been turned into a cat café called Le Litière. They tell owner Maisie that they need to make some holes to retrieve their detective tools, but she says they will have to take that up with the landlord in the other room. This turns out to be Henry, who kept paying the office's rent when Shawn moved without breaking his lease in order to sublet it to ill-conceived start-ups like Le Litière. A new series of “The More You Know” PSAs will tackle systemic racism and speak up for social justice, equality and equity, NBCUniversal says. Participating will be a roster of NBC talent, including Dulé Hill, James Roday Rodriguez, Kelly Clarkson and Melissa Fumero, among others. The event highlighted how programmers are pivoting toward building data partnerships to form better, direct relationships with consumers, who are increasingly turning toward customizable digital services.
